Moving goods through the Port of Holyhead
The Port of Holyhead will process Office of Transit and CITES checks, so you’ll need to go to Holyhead Interim Inland border Facility Service when moving goods with an ATA Carnet, Office of Departure or Office of Destination.
Opening hours over Christmas if you’re planning to travel on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day. This inland border facility will:
- close from 7am on 25 December 2021
- reopen at 5am on 26 December 2021
Port of Holyhead
The Port of Holyhead will offer Office of Transit and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) checks only. The Office of Transit function at Holyhead will be completed using the digital pre-lodgement model and any documentary or physical checks will also take place here.

Opening times: Holyhead Interim Inland Border Facility Service, is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
You can get to the Holyhead Interim Inland Border Facility Service by exiting the A55 at junction 2, then turning left onto the A5153 and turning left onto Parc Cybi.
You can check if there are any issues affecting traffic in the area by using the Welsh Government’s live traffic alert service.
All ATA Carnet, Office of Departure or Office of Destination services can be processed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Transporting live animals under an ATA Carnet
If you are transporting live animals under an ATA Carnet, you will need to tell Border Force as this will help them to prioritise the processing of your ATA Carnet.
When your crossing is confirmed, you will need to let Border Force know when you expect to arrive at Holyhead Interim Inland Border Facility Service. You must do this at least 24 hours before you’re due to arrive.
