Health and Safety Executive information if the UK leaves the EU without a deal

This guidance explains how a range of areas regulated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) may be affected if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

This information covers a range of areas regulated by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), including chemicals regulation and occupational health and safety. It explains how the rules concerning these areas may be affected if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

Organisational compliance

Health and safety protections, and your duties as an employer to protect the health and safety of your employees, will not change with Brexit. We have made minor amendments to regulations to remove EU references but legal requirements, and the protections these provide, will be the same as they are now.

Find out more about organisational compliance on HSE’s website.

Importing and exporting

If your business moves high-risk material like chemicals or explosives in or out of the UK, see our guidance on how changes to importing and exporting after Brexit could affect you.

Workforce

Workers’ health and safety rights will not change after Brexit. You won’t need to change how you manage risks to people’s health and safety in your workplace

Read details about workers rights on HSE’s website.

Regulations and standards

The UK’s high standards in health and safety will continue after Brexit. There will be changes to some health and safety regulations, however, these make sure that their requirements still apply post-Brexit. We have made minor amendments to regulations to remove EU references but legal requirements, and the protections these provide, will be the same as they are now.

Find out more about regulations and standards on HSE’s website.
